Self-Sufficiency

Georgia Travis Center
Georgia Travis Center is a daytime drop-in center for homeless and low-income women and families. Basic needs are met with meals, showers, laundry facilities, transportation assistance, mailing address, telephone access and an emergency clothing closet. Case managers work with the women to assess their family's needs and connect them with community resources. Daily workshops on topics such as money management, conflict resolution and domestic violence are available to help women increase their self-sufficiency and coping skills. A computer lab is available to work on resumes, learn computer skills and begin a housing search. Children's activities are provided to give both the mother and child respite and recreation. On-site medical assistance is also available weekly. A free produce market is held monthly; pre-registration is required. Emergency financial assistance is also available to qualifying individuals and families.

Elsa Segovia Center
The Elsa Segovia Center (ESC) is a day resource center for homeless and low-income women, children and families. The ESC offers a variety of services to homeless and at-risk families including free dental care, groceries, information and referral, classes for the parents, and activities for the children.

Family Place
The Family Place Program offers a child development center for 0-5 year old children. A structured education and support program is provided at the same time for the mothers including ESL, health education computer and parenting classes. The adult education program is targeted toward at-risk Latina women currently in housing in the community. The child development center is open to all children using the Georgia Travis Center. All services are free.

Opportunity Services Center - Families
The Bredt Family Center on the ground floor of the Opportunity Center houses Services specifically for families-both residents of the center as well as those currently looking for housing. These services include adult education classes and workshops, child development activities, computer/Internet access, health care, case management, and information and referral.

Day Rehabilitation Program
Weekdays, Julian Street Inn offers rehabilitation services to its residents and former residents. Individuals receive one-on-one counseling and support as well as participating in support groups. The groups are designed to help clients increase their coping skills, maintain sobriety, and develop resources to help them maintain independence.

Cecil White Center
The Cecil White Center is a drop-in center where anyone in need of a meal, clothing, mailing address, shower, voicemail, or information and referral can utilize the facility. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served weekdays. On weekends, an evening meal is served. A computer lab is available for housing and employment searches. Cecil White Center serves an average of 300 people a day and 11,000 meals a month.

Opportunity Services Center
This new service center serves primarily single adults. The Clothing Closet, Money Management Program and Emergency Assistance Program relocated to this center. Case management services are available throughout the day. Basic services such as showers, laundry facilities and lockers are accessible. This facility also includes a computer lab and classroom, thus making it possible to hold workshops, classes and community meetings throughout the day and into the evening. An on-site clinic has both medical staff and mental health staff.

Emergency Financial Assistance
Emergency rental and utility assistance is provided to qualifying low-income families and individuals. In the South Bay, call 408-453-3124. In the Palo Alto/Menlo Park area, call 650-853-8672.

Donation Warehouse
The Georgia Travis Center Donation Warehouse collects, sorts, and distributes in-kind goods. All donated new and like new items go directly to clients free of charge. For a list of needed items, what items are accepted, where to drop them off, and hours of operation, please see the donation page
